Our site has many photos on it....I know I could use thumbnails etc etc, but our boss likes the idea of full pages with the full photos on, just like a brochure....ah well. We're talking big pages here.
So my thought is this....the first page for each product is rich in text which browsers will read, and probably take some time over. Is there any way to tell the first page to pre-load the picture pages in the background while they are reading?
Thanx!!

F1 then look for preload images Live long and make your kids suffer..

Thank you. I understand the pre-loading of images concept - but as far as I can see it is only triggered when the page on which they appear is itself loaded. Am I correct? Is there an alternative?

Regards,

Nick

If you preload the images in the first page, even though they will not be displayed they should still be in the remote users cache. And will therefore load quicker when you display them. Live long and make your kids suffer..

As Cheech said, as long as they load into cache (which is actually what a pre-load does), they should show quick when the user opens any page that calls them out. Of course if the user has cache disabled or to small this defeats the purpose of the pre-load images(I'm not exactly sure what a preload would do in this case). Note however, if you do have a front page that takes to long to load (and take my word, having pre-load images on a page can really kill the load time on it) you could be pushing users away (although I don't know you target user base).

My advice is stick to a minimum and have the full images load on the pages that actually utilize the images. Pre-load is mostly for Mystery Meat Navigation.
