PPT hyperlink to files via environment variable?

I have a Powerpoint presentation which needs to be linked to a series of demonstrations. The demonstrations range from .htm files to .exe and .swf (Flash).

Is it possible to use environment variables in the PPT hyperlinks? I have a directory of demonstrations but I'd like to link to %DEMO%/demo1.exe or something rather than the explicit path (this syntax does not work).

Does anyone know how to do this?
