PPT background color change

My PPT slide Master has a perimeter of blue (Hex 39/133/184). I have a slide with a text box having the same color blue font text on a white background. When I click in the text box to edit the text, the background becomes an awful red!!!!

When I go to Format->Background to change this to, say, White, the text background changes to white OK, but the slide Master has also become all white :-( I have lost my Slide Master!

All I want is my Text Edit background to be White, without changing the Slide Master.
