I have a user who has a PowerPoint file but when he opens it and saves as another name the size changes as follows:

Original file 1.94MB (2,035,712 bytes)
saved as file 1.68MB (1,765,888 bytes)

If i look at the summary properties of the files the only difference is byte count as follows:

Original file 541852
saved as file 1724677

Now I would imagine that the saved as file, because it is smaller when checking properties would have a smaller byte size than the original, but as you can see it isn't.

I have virus checked both files with 2 different virus programs. No changes were made to the file after opening before saving as.

Any ideas? He's the sort of user who wants an explanation.

Thanx

When "Allow Fast Save" is used to save a file, it tends to the changes along with the presentation itself. As such, with Fast Save, deletions made to the file would be saved also.

If this file is opened on another system that does not have this checked, the changes would be discarded and the file size would change upon save. Also, PPT discards Fast Save info from time to time and the file size may change that way also.

Hope that helps.
