Powerpoint seems to run fine. When I close Powerpoint I cannot re-open. I check the process in Task Manager and after closing the first time I notice that the process POWERPNT.EXE has not terminated and is at 50% CPU usage. I can end the process and then re-open Powerpoint with no problems. When I close that same thing happens. This is a viscious circle. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Is there a specific file you're using? If this is Office 2000, have you tried to run repair on Powerpoint (under Help)?

Let me know.

It happens with any powerpoint file that I open. I have indeed run the repair as well as
loading the Office Service pack.

Okay, parker, try this. With Powerpoint closed and its task ended if necessary. Actually, preferable on a fresh restart/reboot.

Start-Run and type regedit and hit enter. Go to this folder and rename it to Oldpowerpoint, close the registry and relaunch Powerpoint.

Dreamboat,

Further to your post for parker309, I am currently experiencing the exact same problem with office 97 on a Windows 2000 proffessional workstation. Followed your advice but the problem still occurs. Have un-installe dand re-installed office. From Run dialogue box I have run powerpnt.exe /unregserver and powerpnt.exe /regserver. Neither of these have worked. Please help!
