This is different, but similar to, messages I have seen related to Microsoft KB article Q189692 --

but it is different

so anyone who has experience above and beyond that old office 97 problem with powerpoint orgchart

please H_E_L_P !!!

I have all win2k pc's -- NONE had either win2k or office 2k "installed over" existing versions -- ALL were done from scratch with win2k os put on after an fdisk/reformat ...

now on these PC's -- when you try to use org chart template for the first time --

it tellsyou

"Hey -- put in office 2k cd; you NEED TO INSTALL THAT FEATURE"

Mind you, these systems had office 2k pro installed under 'Custom' with ALL ITEMS CHOSEN to "RUN ALL FROM THIS COMPUTER"

now...

the specific problem --

on PC's that DO NOT

ALSO

have WordPerfect Office (Corel) installed --

all you have to do is comply with the request to

put in the off2k cd

and it "finishes up" this Org Chart deal...

However, three PC's that run Corel Wordperfect -- they simply refuse tocomplete this "installation of the Org Chart sub-engine"

(which by all rights, shouldn't have been necessary in the first place)

I am under the gun to either sya:

"this sub-engine for the OrgChart flat won't work on a machine that has Corel along with Microsoft Office (which I suspect but cannot prove)

or else find a fix

uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2k does no good

uninstalling both Corel office & Microsoft office

and then re-installing Microsoft office does not work either

I am not sure if your post indicates whether you went to Add Remove Programs, Micrsoft Office, Change, Add or Remove Feature, Office Tools, Installed on First Use?

Well, at this point -- the issue is clearly a FONT issue...

Corel/WordPerf office 2000; when it installs -- puts boo-koo FONTS in the font directory...

after uninstalling it; these fonts are left

when I manually delete ALL of the WP*.ttf fonts as well as a handful of others...

this fixes Powerpoint's ORG CHART feature -- no rebooting, nuthin -- I deleted fonts one by one and once

a certain group of

"fonts added by WordPerfect install (and left afteruninstall) was deleted --

BINGO

Powerpoint Org Chart nolonger gave the "reinstall this server application Error Msgbut just poppedup the Org Chart sub-engine with no problem.

Only there ISstill a problem-- cuzwhat will it do to CorelOffice to run IT minus a boatload of it's particular fonts?

Don't know yet -- I fear it will be a question of

"pays ya munny --takes ya choice"

of whether you want to have the OrgChart feature of powerpoint working

or

be minus God-knows-what features in WordPerfect 2000

My next step is to run Wordperfect office on a PC where it is installed again and then I delete the bunch of fonts

No, xlhelp, I did not INITIALLY try to "change Powerpoint" thru ControlPanel -- neither did I install it on the default "installon first use" parameter in the first place-- the first time you try to use powerpoint on a PC that has all these fonts onit -- you get that bogus message that the feature needs to be installed or that it is corrupted...

i say "bogus msg" because it is quite obvious now that no reinstall is needed; but

rather

the elimination of several added fonts

the thing works with as many as 420 fonts installed in the font directory -- it is NOT simply the "sheer number of fonts"; but a combination of which fonts added by WordPerf need to be whacked outta the way for pwrpoint to run ok again

Of course, in the case of the individual most needing to do

org charts in powerpoit

AS WELL AS

WordPerfect for corporate documents

i cant just delete the fonts and let 'em

go their merry way --

side effects on WordPerfect may be far worse than the "cure" of Powerpoint
