I have a user with a new laptop, XP Pro, Office 2K3, and the latest version of Windows Media Player. This user has a power point presentation that contain links to some .avi files, and when he clicks on any of the links (within the slide show mode) to play the .avi files, he gets the message "There is no driver installed on your system". Then after he clicks "ok" the file plays anyway. If I run the .avi file itself by clicking on it directly, it runs without the error message. It seems to only happen when he clicks the link. Any suggestions??

try renaming the files as .MPG files, and reinsert into the application. I've seen situations where although its got the .avi extension, it's actually recored with the MPEG codec. Media Player is a bit cleverer in that it seems to determine the codec after the file is opened.

It's so crazy, it just might work ...

I tried it in my PowerPoint 2003 SR1 and Win Xp Pro SR1 and it works ok. That is if you click on an imbedded avi icon it will play in PP. If you insert a Hyperlink to the avi file it will call up Microsoft Media Player to play it. You may need to go to My Computer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, and locate AVI and be sure it is associated with Microsoft Media Player.
