Powerbuilder 6.5 & Windows 2000 DDE

Help! We are having an intermittent problem running Powerbuilder 6.5 DDE on Windows 2000. Our application falls over on the line:
'StartServerDDE'

with a standard windows error:
NameOfApp.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will have to restart the programme an error log is being created.

This does not happen every time this line is run, just sometimes.
