Power supply switch issue

My power supply switch (on the CPU) is not working properly and I have to keep adjusting it to turn the PC on. Is there a way to keep it on "Standby" after disconnecting it from the ISP and turning it on whenever I want to without having to use the power switch (hitting any key on the keybard). I tried it but I heard the fan inside the CPU runninng. Is it normal, in "Standby" mode?

Please clarify: there is no "connection" between the power switch, the "standby" system, and access to your ISP. What is it that you are trying to do?

I am not able to start the computer using the power supply switch on the CPU due to some malfunction. I have temporarily fixed it and need to know if there is a way to use the computer later without shutting it down (to avoid starting problems with the switch). Is leaving it in the "Stand By" mode OK and what do I need to do without the PC starting up or the CPU fan running all night (in the stand by mode)?

As a temporary measure I'd have thought the easiest solution would be to run a couple of wires to the <power sw> headers on the motherboard, and attach a momentary switch to the other end. Knock out one of the backplates and have the wires exit the computer through that.

Long term you should get the switch fixed - often these are a standard item once you get behind the case front button.
