Power Problem.... Please Help

I have just finished building a system:-

1.4Ghz T.Bird 266FSB,
256Mb DDR,
ASUS K7S5A

After completing the building process I proceeded to plug in the power supply and it tripped all the power in my house. I have a large number of things plugged into the plugs in the room where i tested it, so maybe it is just too much for the power in my house to handle,

Do people have any other ideas on what is could be? Is it a dodgy power supply?

Can be a bad PS. But it can be a result of too much draw on the circuit you used.
Try unplugging operating stuff for about 500 watts and try it again. If it blows again , you have a bad power supply. Ed Fair

Be sure that you have properly mounted the new motherboard in the new case (only the proper earthing points are being used for the brass mounting posts) the case chassis must NOT touch the underside of the motherboard apart from these mounting points. Most power supplies have a switch on the back, often covered up, to change between 110v and 220v. Ensure this switch is in the correct position for your local supply. If it is not you can fry the powersupply and probably a few other things as well.

After many hours pondering i found the problem! I took of the cover on the plug (obviously it wasn’t sealed) and discovered that it was wired incorrectly the earth and the neutral mixed up. I contacted the supplier to inform them of the problem and they have refunded the money I paid for the case so >

BUT! would you believe it? even me grandma could wire a plug up!!
That Assus board isn't an ECS Elite Group by any chance? only it has the same number.
