Power Point won't do a show

Win Xp Pro SP2.
MS Power Point 2002.

when i click on the "show" button, i just get an item in the task bar.
I click it, nothing happens.
If i click the PowerPoint window that is still in edit mode, a small box appears that says "resume show".
I click it and it disappears, but nothing happens, and i still have 2 task bar items.
