Hello, I was curious if anyone might know why my power options display no longer displays the alarm tab? Also, the Power Scheme tab no longer shows the battery status options in the settings box. My computer is a Compaq Pressario 700 Laptop. It seems as if the power management will not recongnize the battery and defaults to a PC setup. Does anyone have any Ideas? I'm stumped.

You have every right to be concerned.

Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manaqer.

Expand the entries for Batteries and My Computer and post the results back here.

No battery options are displayed under the device manager, I have already looked for that. I have tried installing windows twice now, and still nothing. If I remberer correctly, I have had this problem before with this computer but I can not for the life of me rember the solution. As far as the computer devices loaded it shows "standard pc".

Also, just some additional info, the icon in the status tray will display on AC power even if the power cord is removed. It will never show the battery icon.

Post back your results.

This you really have to get right.

Ok, I attempted to force the hal to ACPI, however, when windows should load the computer freezes. I tried to find some known issues with this computer with no luck. I am still searching. Any ideas.

You then need to talk to tech support at Compaq/HP. This is a not trivial issue, and it needs to be sorted.
