I need to find a way to automatically compact my backend, if possible in the middle of the night when nobody is there. It is used pretty much all day by at least 5 or 6 people everyday. Every so often, I get the message: unrecongnized database format. When I compact and repair the backed it always works. I'm hoping the a daily compact will help the problem?

I have enlisted the help of a person who says that he can create a .BAT file to automatically compact the database BUT that it cannot pass the password. So, he can make it work if I have the backend unprotected, which I'd rather not do. He says this is a known problem, checked the microsoft site, and that there is no way around this. Is this true??

Thanks, you guys are always brilliant!

This is the ADP forum where Access uses SQL Server on the backend. You don't compact SQL Server databases in the same way. You set up a maintenance plan through Enterprise Manager.

If the question is about an Access backend database, you might want to ask it in the Microsoft: Access Queries and JET SQL forum.
