possibly wrong forum advice please

Hi there everyone,

I am working on an apache/php/mysql setup.
The boss wants a contacts/booking/payments system (web based).
I could build it from scratch but I am sure there must be some software out there that does something similar and could be customised.

So my question is :- does anyone know of any software that does anything close to this, which can be customised with php or perl.
Ideally open-source but there is also a budget so proprietry would be considered.

Also is there any issues anyone knows of not to use mysql for transaction processing.
