My friend bought an HP Pavillion 724C more than a year ago for use at home. With it he bought an HP 5100 all-in-one. Both from Costco. He never got the printer to work in spite of the phone support he received from HP (India?!) He is a busy attorney not tech savvy. When I looked at his system some time last year, the first thing I did was get him to buy a USB cable to hook up his printer but none of the USB ports worked. In installing the Printer Software the program always said the software is already installed. I tried reinstalling XP from the CD - no improvement. Windows trouble shooting said all the USB ports were working properly. Back in April I came across an article in PC Magazine about "paid support" and the article led me to believe that removing the USB Driver and reinstalling it would fix the problem. I finally got a chance to help my friend but now he can't find the CD that came with the computer. So I can't reinstall the driver:
Intel 82801db/dbm usb 2.0 enhanced host controller. I tried going to Microsoft to get it but couldn't find it. Any way I can help my friend? Seems a shame to have a printer gathering dust.

The PC Magazine suggestion was the correct one.

DOT4 printer installs are tough, and SP2 makes the whole world more complicated.

. Use Device Manager to remove any USB Root hub assignments. You want your printers disconnected during this process.

Reboot, and let the Windows New Device Wizard rediscover the USB hubs.
