Hi All,

I have a cisco 4006 switch to which i have connected a 1920 switch.The 1920 switch is connected to 4006 switch via
2/47 i.e. normal switch port (Not via uplink port)
I enabled port security on module 2. After enabling port security on 4006 switch, port 2/47 was disabled (shutdown). What would be the reason??? Pls help.

Thanx

Hi,

I would guess that port security uses the mac-address of the attached device. Once you turn port security on the switch will only allow a single mac-address to use the port. Your Cisco 1920 if connected via cross-over and not as a trunk will show multiple mac-addresses and therefore port security will shut it down.

I think you have to specify each mac-address connected to the 1920 switch , and unless ALL these are defined for port 2/47 then a shutdown will occur.

Check the cisco web site.

Cheers
