Thanks again.

I have a tenant who wants to port an existing number into our phone system. The Norstar version that we have is 4.5. Can anyone give me the steps involved in setting up a completely new DID in our system? Thanks to all.

If so, program a target line (any available one will do after line 145) under lines with the last digits of the phone number you're porting. (look at line 145-rec digits. if there are 3 digits, then use the last 3-for example- if 123-4567 is line 145, and the rec digits are 567, then program the last 3 digits of you're new number under your new line.)

On the other hand, if none of this is making any sense, it might be better to call a vendor.

Curlycord,

Yes...I can get into Configuration. If there is another level of programming, I don't have that information. I do have the installer guide for our Nortel mini-pilot.

This is the situation. Our extensions are setup to go to 6000. The DID's we currently own and are in the system go to 6000. The guy wants to port in an 8000 number (last four digits). Not only that, of course the three digits are different. The new DID will be coming in on our PRI and I know how to assign target lines. I have a guy that can punch lines, but doesn't really know the Norstar system. He does work with another system.

This is my thought, but I don't know if it will work. I set the received to 8### and the Prime Set to the extension that is already in that office 5###. Will that work or do I need to program the complete number into the Norstar system somewhere?

RikRogers,

It makes sense...I'm just wondering if my phone guy has to punch down some extra phone line somewhere or I have to do something else. I tried to get our line carrier to piggyback the number on an existing DID, but they suggested remote forwarding with a steep monthly charge.

If you're porting a number onto a PRI, there's no punching wires involved. It's all programming. If someone comes in with a punch tool, be afraid. Very afraid.

RikRodgers...

Thanks....I just want to get this number to ring in his office. I'm fairly comfortable with assigning lines, etc. That said, new cards and powering up and down the system scare me.

Can I ask another question? Our phone system is not backed up. We have contracted to set it up to back it up to my hard drive and then back-up my hard drive to an offsite location. My question is what data backs from the mini-pilot?

I beleive you said you had the documentation disks? You can connect the Call Pilot to a laptop with a crossover cable using it's default ip addresses- 192.168.110.10,class c subnet; or change the ip's and put it on your network.
