Greetings Everyone.

We have Windows 2000 server with Proxy 2.0 installed. We also have our Exchange 5.5 sp4 on an NT 4.0 server sp6.

Here is the problem. Port 110 is dropping and comming backup by itself. I have port monitoring software running on our proxy server and it is showing that port 110 is dropping but, Only on our Windows 2000 proxy 2.0 box. When port 110 goes down the monitor software still shows port 110 on the Exchange Server as running.

Summary.

Port 110 on our Win2k server with Proxy 2.0 is dropping.
Port 110 on Exchange stays up while Proxy is dropping it.

Anyone have any Idea why this would be happening.

Now I have restarted the Internet Mail Service (Service) on our Exchange box. This did seem to stop the problem up until the point we restarted our Exchange Box. Now the problem is occuring again.

Thanks for any help.

i have a similar issue, win2k, upgraded from 4.0 proxy 2.0....port 110 and 25 both drop but do not comeback up unless i bounce the exchange services....when this happened on a server running isaserver MS gave a hotfix that resolved the issue...is there a hotfix for proxy 2. to fix it dropping ports on win2k...i think the hotfix was a new wspsrv.exe file.

Yes,, I did get with Microsoft on this one.

There is a hotfix. Just call Microsoft and tell them that your Smtp and Pop3 is dropping. You May want to share with this this Article number. Q262373

Above is the link to the article posted. its an FTP site with a hotfix you can download. I applied the Hotfix Sat. Day and have not had any of those ports go down yet.

Give it a shot.

Thanks,
TecGuy

They will send you a FTP site link that has the Hotfix.
After reading my reply it makes no sense.

Just call Microsoft explain your problem.. Give them the article number and they will send you the ftp site username and password.

Thanks,

OK so MS sent me a an email with a link to 3 downloads....turns out the wspsrv.exe file on my proxy server is already the same version as the one in the hotfix...Was there anything else you had to put on there...what are those other 2 downloads for...thanks

Greetings,

Not sure.. I download the Zip file. Q262373_ENU_i386_MID89879_zip.exe.

My file version I think was the same as the one listed on the Article but I still ran the hotfix.

After unzipping I had the following files unzipped.

hfx.exe
hotfix.exe
hotfix.inf
hotfix.orig
hotfix.txt
wspsrv.exe

I ran the Hotfix.exe did a reboot on the machine and I haven't has a problem with port 110 or 25 dropping since.

Have you ran the hotfix? is your ports still droping?

Thanks,
TecGuy

Today, I requested that same Hotfix Q262373 from Microsoft to answer NT4 server sp6a with Proxy server 2.0 . The link the sent was for the updated wspsrv.exe with the date of 5/18/2000 and version 2.0.390.16. The other file is called SP7. The entire extract was 568Kb so I am not sure what it did exactly.

Hope this helps.

Inquiring Minds,

i fixed it somehow, for some reason i think the drive was full from log files....which was causing the ports to drop off
