POP3 failure

I have an Intuity Audix LX 1.1 configured for internet messaging. Everything was working fine but this morning the status showed "stopped" without anyone stopping it. I discovered that POP3 was not running but it was enabled.
I had to restart the audix server before everything was normal again.

What could have gone wrong?
