I'm running SQL 7 on an NT box. My Windows 2000 desktop has Enterprise Manager 2000 installed (we're not quite ready to upgrade the server to 2000), and is what I use most of the time to maintain and administer the database. The problem is that it takes a ridiculously long time to add or modify logins. For example, if I try to add a new login, it takes several minutes for the New Login box to come up (EM is frozen until it does). The server is in the same room with me so I can hear the drives thrashing when I do this. But if I go and add the login directly on the server, it does it quickly as it should. The same goes for modifying existing logins. I know the server could stand to have more RAM (it has 256 Mb now), but that doesn't seem like that would be the problem since it only happens when I try to do things from my desktop (which also has 256 Mb). I have no performance problems when running queries from QA (or from within EM, for that matter), nor is it slow to add or delete tables. Any and all suggestions/ideas are welcome. Thanks.
