Right I've got a question we are using networker 7.1, on windows 2000 backing up 12 boxes and mixture of windows and solaris.

I understand that legato wants to back up to pools not tapes but I have a requirement to off site all backups each morning

So what I want to do is to perform full backups of 11 of the machines each night, and perform a incremental of the other server each night with a full on Friday.

I also want to use 5 weekly sets of tapes (week one monday tape x, etc) so that on Tuesday for example the week 2 Tuesday 1 and 2 tape are stuck in the auto changer and they are overwritten with that nights backup and replaced with week2 Wednesday 1 and 2 the following day.

I only need to retain date for on calender month until the tape set comes around again.

I maybe being thick here but I cannot for the life of me work out how to configure the pools/templates and volumes to achieve this.

Any help would be appreciated even thats wrong do it like this would help.

Thanks

Jeff

Sorry, you want to force NW into a scheme that is not or very hard to implement. The problem here is that the calendery can not be mapped to the media via the resources.

In principle it is easy:
- setup a retention policy to 4 weeks
- create 2 pools
"servers 1 to 11"
in the client field, list the 11 server names, one per line
"server 12"
in the client field, only state "server 12"
- Label media for these pools
- Make sure that you swap the jukebox media every day
Unfortunately, you must ensure to insert the correct ones.
- Turn on "Auto Media Management" for the JUKEBOX.
This will enable overwriting for recyclable tapes.

Be aware that indexes/bootstraps are saved as save sets of the server's client - you may want to use a separate pool for these. Please see the other actual threads for details.
