Hi,

We use NetBackup 4.5 on Solaris 8 and StoreEDGE L9

Scheduled Job fails with the above error:

"skipping backup of client rama-oltp_hme0, policy test3, schedule Full because it has exceeded the configured number of tries"

If we do a manual backup it runs. This happens on all our policy.

Any ideas would be appriciated.
Thanks and regards

This is the normal message to be recived when you have had a backup failure and the system is looking to retry the policy. There is a default of two tries in 12 hours I think. If the policy failes twice then it will send out the message to warn you that no more attempts will be made for this policy untill the next time it is due to run. Manual backups do not have this restriction. Now you do not metion any other errors so I wounder are you getting other errors you have not mentioned or have you changed to default settings in such a way that the policy has no window to start.

Okay, there was only one message found:
"scheduler found no backups due to run"

About the policy you asked, we didn't change to default settings.
But I want to know how to set the right policy, should I change or thick mark "retention" column or "frequecy" column to a minimum setting ?

And how to test the policy run normally.

This policy has always done normaly before, I don't know what caused this policy abnormal. That's why I tried to use manual backup for a couple time.

My consultants has already solved (twice) this problem before. And after several months later the policy had problem again. Could you give me the right setting for this policy ? so I can do scheduler backup automatically.

Thanks and regards.

Okay a few things to look at are the 'Go active' date on the attributes page, the 'frequency' on the schedule pages, ensure this is set to just bigger than your window for the backup to run. So that a job which runs every day in a 8 hour window can be set as low as 9 hours frequency. All you are trying to do with that setting is stop it running twice in the same window.

You also need to look at the 'host properties' Check things like the wake up interval. and the one I said before 'schedule backup attempts' default is 2 tries per 12 hours.

To test just add a new schedule to the existing policy which is set for a start time you want to test.

If you do not have log files set them up so you can check in more detail what is happening.

Thanks for your help.

My problem solved.

Regards,
Eddy
