Point to point with add/drop

I need to connect two sites with a point to point circuit and use half the channels for voice and half for data. Will I need a csu/dsu plus a router to accomplish this or is there one box that can do both? Can this be done with the Netvanta 3200? I will hand off a t1 to the Norstar MICS at each end and an Ethernet 10baseT to the data network at each end.

I have not seen a box that will do both. I have used may drop and insert CSU/DSU units from adtran

I have used Adtrans also but it sounds like what you have will do the same thing.

Don't know if it's still out there but I once installed a Nortel unit called "Passport" that allowed you to divvy up channels for voice and data transmission.

The 3200 Netvanta did exactly what I needed and was super-easy to configure. Thanks to all.

I set this using an ADTRAN TSU with a network connection off the adtran for data and another network connection for the voice. to keep things simple I set up the last 12 lines to go to the phone system then used the PRI and MCDN Enablers to handle the calls between sites like a PRI does (Call by call). Chan 24 being the D channel

Thanks, Jerry. I needed to use the Netvanta since I also needed to route data between the sites.

Same same. the cue you need to pay attention to wether you use the netvanta or adtran is you need a network output for the Phone system(DSX-1) and a network output for the computer network. look at

the insert module will change depending on your application. talk to the netvana tech support or your vendor and explain to them that you want to plug the upper channels into a phone system as a T1/PRI and they can help you with selecting the cartridge for slot1. as far as the netvana is concerned you will be getting a T1, the only thing that is concerned about PRI are the two ICS units the netvana is just a carrier for the (fractional)T1 between the two ICS systems key to making this work with the phone systems is that they need channel 24 for a data channel to control the other ports that they use.
