Hi all,
We have 2 Cisco 1720's that we have configured for PTP access. The router at the main site has the IP address of our local network and the router at our backup site has a different IP address, per cisco instructions. We want to have Windows 2000 with AD on our local subnet synchronize with the Windows 2000 server on the remote site. The problem is we cannot get the local server to ping the remote server. The cisco routers ping each other fine AND when we changed the default gateway on a test p.c. it could ping the remote servers by IP address but it could not browse them. I have added the subnet in Sites and Services but the local server still cannot ping the remote server. The point to all of this is so we can have a backup site that we can use to connect to the main site if we were not allowed back into our main site for any reason. Any ideas?

Oh yeah, we have two NICs in our DC. One is connected to the network the other is disabled at the moment.(We connected the router to a switch)

What does ipconfig /all and route print show? Glen A. Johnson

IPconfig /all:
Host Name: xSvr04
Primary DNS Suffix: domain.loc
Node Type: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled: No
WINS Proxy Enabled : No
DNS Suffix Search List: domain.loc

DHCP Enabled: No
IP Address: 192.168.20.x
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.x
Default Gateway: 192.168.20.x
DNS Servers: 192.168.20.x
Primary WINS Server: 192.168.20.x
Secondary WINS Server: 192.168.20.x

These are all local addresses and the route print shows all local addresses as well. BTW is it even possible to have the remote site join the main site using this kind of connection.

If you can ping from site to site you most likely have a DNS issue. Are these servers members of the same domain? Are they both running DNS? What is it that you'd like to synchronize, account information?

We actually figured out what was wrong. It was the default gateway. We have it pointing to our ISP's router for internet access, so we had to add a new route to our routing table. Thanks Glen and Brontosaurus for taking time out to try and help.
