plugged in phone line..won't boot?

I plugged in a phone line so I could load the files for my ISP and the darn computer booted up. It got into about 20 seconds of the boot and then stopped. Now i can't get anything...no power, no nothing. What did i do and how do I fix it?

Phone line into a network card? Shouldn't be anything on the phone line that a modem couldn't handle.
Start pulling stuff to get it as simple as possible.

It's just possible there was a static charge on the phone line when you plugged it in. Ordinarily there should be isolation between the phone line and the internal port interface on your modem. If, after doing as Ed suggests, it still won't fly, clear CMOS, and try booting up again. You will of course, need to put in all the BIOS settings again...

The problem is solved. I believe that there was a static charge of some kind on the line. I disconnected the line and waited a while. I understand that there is a command in BIOS about a "wakeup" and this could have been set off. If that is possible, what words do I look for in BIOS to turn off this feature? Both of you, Ed and Goaoz, have helped this novice before...many thanks.
