Hi,

I’ve got two new computers with no parallel port. The USB ports work fine on flash drives.

But the Plug and Play does not recognize a new device.

Is there any way to force this???

The issue with replacing one printer is: it is at a church and they bought a year’s supply of ink cartridges. I have the same issue with my computer.

Thanks for any ideas,

BLenard

Can you be more specific?

Are you using something like this or this to connect the printer to you printer's USB port?

Hi,

I'm using the later connector which I always called a centronics connector.

I'm NOT using a 25 pin DB female connector.

I hope that make my problem easier!

Thanks
Bob

If plug'n'play doesn't detect the printer, then install the printer driver software, using the default parallel port LPT1:. Don't print a test page, and click you way out using OK.

Re-open the printer properties, and under "Port" change the printer port to the USB port. Print a test page to make sure all is well.

SlimJohnD:

That is what I would have suggested. Good job.

The problem is that the parallel printers aren't always as "chatty", especially if it's an older one... it may not have been a plug-and-play printer to begin with (since it has a centronics port instead of a USB port on the printer).

Just my 2¢

That's correct, and most of the time this lack of dialogue with old printers can be advantage as the printer just does accepts what data arrives without any bi-directional interchange.

Hopefully the USB port is listed in the Printer properties; if a USB printer has been previously attached, then all should be well. Some printer setups create their own port with unusual names.

Was there drivers that had to be loaded with that unb cable, If it came with drivers that need to be loaded before the cable is pluged in.
