Plotting type

I have a Roland CAMM1 plotter . I would like to plot type with a single stroke . To plot type you convert to curves and put on a 1 pt stroke. That will plot around each letter. That is NOT what I want.
Is there a way to plot type with a single stoke in a font of my choice?
