I've come into a server setup which, so far, and thankfully, I've never worked with before.
Plesk.
My initial reaction is that it's a middle man I don't need and wizards I don't want. But that's probably a judgement made too early. We'll see.
I've created my domain--and am at wit's end on how to change the base directory...but I've found where Plesk wants it, so I'll work from there--and as a simple test of the website. I changed plesk's default index.html to Xindex.html, then pasted in my own index.html.
Before the change, the website would come up in the browser. After the change, it asks for a username and password whether I try... / or /index.html... but if I try /xindex.html, lo and behold that comes straight up.
I know that this is a beginner question, but why is it doing this? Frankly it frustrates me that it's a beginner question when I am by no means a beginner.
