Please mount new media to continue backup"

What's the reason for this?

The system used to backup totally fine, and then suddenly wants new media halfway through.

If I could be more specific with this problem, I would, but I can't give you much more information. :(

Has the size of your system grown? Has the tape drive changed? Different files compress differently, so even with compression on, you don't typically get the maximum advertised amount on a tape. Sometimes you get more, but more often you get less.

So, check the size of the file backed up, compared to before, if the size hasn't changed, or is smaller, verify it is compressing. Most tape drives compress automatically, but some you have to tell. There is a setting on the backup job options for compress before. Check it and see if it makes a different.

Good luck,
Debi

No change in Size of the backup.

I've just set the backup to run now, with the checkbox checked with compress files.

I'll let you know how I get on in say....ummm 2 hours or so.

Thanks.

I got an error in the log - Compression disabled due to hardware compression.

Same thing happened, it looks like it backed up 18gb (onto a dds-4 tape 40gb) and then asks for new media.

If I put a new tape in, it won't carry on...

the second tape may or maynot be used depending on the job details. In all cases if the tape is erased first then it will be used for the second tape.

Okay thanks.

I've got another problem on the same server now - the backup stopped at 50% requiring tape #2. So I hit cancel and now it just says "stopping job...."

26 hours later I've still got same problem.

May just have to reset server tonight when everyone goes home.

Just great.

Make sure on your job that you are not appending the backup each day.
