PLEASE HELP sharing C$ ON XP

PLEASE HELP

Notice that every xp I install(using Ghost image) is says C$

when I try to link to that on another pc, I can't get in. I am trying the password of the administrator account on that pc.
Event I using map network drive with diff user and it still not let me in C$(\\remotepc\user\c$). I did uncheck the simple share in folder option but it not help. Our enviroment is only NOVELL no AD. I thinking the reg file that is cause the problem but this reg file is modified to logon at the same user (default user), below is the reg file.

What is needed is access to a workstation sharing an Administrative share (that is what the "$" symbol represents), where you have no entry as a local administrator on the share server.

. Do a public share (without the "$", and make it available to selected users or Everyone as a group.

. Unless you have an entry as a local user with password, and as an Administrator on the local share server, you cannot access the Administrative share C$;

Yes, this is different than Win9x.

I would recommend that you synchronize all usernames and passwords, and use NTFS and other security measures to control access. This is the security model XP wants you to use.

I'm running Languard to scan these workstation and I got access denied on local workstion. I'm using LocalAdm to access the xp box and still got access denied. I check the network access ->sharing and securtiy.... it set to classic mode which is local user authenicate. This way should be ok, but I still get access denies. Is there the way to re-write the reg file......

You are missing a local entry as username with password on the share server. Best case would be to be a member of the local Administrator group.

Also, do this on the sharing workstation:
Start, Run, net user guest /active:yes

It is possible that restrictions have removed Everyone or Guest from Everyone.

I noticed that the syntax used for the administrative share in the original post was not correct. This is not to say that the other issues raised are not valid (I don't remember seeing any instance where bcastner was actually mistaken). I just like to see the surrounding details handled also.

The correct syntax to map to the admin share is just pcname and share name. There is no place for a user name.

\\remotepc\user\c$ should be just \\remotepc\c$

it's because the admin password has never been changed
there is a tid about this somewhere but no idea where

basically the proper keys dont get generated unless the password has been changed at least once - even to the same thing (if you are ghosting then make sure that the account is changed at least once on this)

in your environment - you should configure a zen dlu policy then the people will actually be logging into the pc's as themselves and the necessary security will be implemented
