Pix 501 as DHCP server problem

I have installed a PIX 501 in a small network. It is acting as the DHCP server for the network. PC's on the network get addresses just fine, but Polycom IP phones never get an address.

If I look and the DHCPD bindings on the PIX, it shows the mac addresses of the phones, and it shows the addresses that supposedly have been assigned, but thye cannot be pinged, and the phones never connect.

If I assign static IP's on the phones, all is well.

It looks to me like the PIX thinks it has assigned the address, but for some reason, the phone is not accepting it. The phone installer is blaming the PIX, but Like I said earlier, PC's on the same network have no issues.

Please help.

Thanks,
DLE

Are you doing any logging? Can you do a capture for the IP it is handing out? Ping is not always the ringer.

I figured it out.

It seems the phone will show that it doesn't get an address if it doesn't get all of the parameters it is looking for. In this case, the option 66 field needed the DNS name or IP address of the FTP server from which the phone is to download it's configuration. If ti doesn;t see that DHCP option, it just says "no address".

Thanks,
DLE
