Hello everybody,

one of my kollegues has a problem with an Excel-Workbook. The Datasheets contain quaterly information. As far as I am informed the data is comming from an Access Database and is included on refresh request in a Pivot Table. When the Pivot Table is selected and the User wants to refresh the data he is getting the error message:

Pivot Table was changed during Refresh Data operation.

He clicks ok, the error message comes again. He clicks ok again and then this error message appers:

The Program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.

The data is on a network drive but not moved within a year. The user has a Windows 98 PC. When I call the Excel-Sheet I can refresh the data without any problems with my Windows 2000 PC. Network entries (TCP/IP Properties) are correct.

Thanks for your assistance.

Stephanie

Sounds like a corrupted pivot table to me - probably something to do with the calcs on the hidden sheets behind it. If it's not too much of a pain., I'd suggest recreating the pivot table. Any code etc can be reattached as long as the new one is named the same as the old one.

Hi Geoff,

the Pivot table is fine - I forgot to mention something. When I am refreshing the data from my PC (W2K) no problems, my collegue has Win98 and he has the problem.

Hi Stephanie - are the versions of excel the same ??
I only ask 'cos newer versions of excel have more tolerance to errors in the pivot table code / background formulae and it can happen that a pivot table works fine on excel2000 but not on excel97

The pivot table has changed message is perfectly ok - that just happens when a new set of data comes in - esp if a field has a new category. The fact that it repeats is a worry tho HTH
