Hi everyone. I am having a problem with pinging my email server. Some 95\98 clients gets the wrong ip address when they ping exchange1 they recieve an outside address when they are in the same building as the server. I tried nbtstat but didn't help flushing that address out not to mention that ip address isn't even addressed to that or any other server i have. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Are your IP addresses assigned via DHCP? if so, I would check that the DHCP servers are set to distribute the correct information.
If not, I would check that there are no entries in the HOSTS and LMHOSTS files on the machine pointing addresses of the servers to outside addresses - if so I would update the entry or remove it, save and reboot.

Hello, most of my 95/98 clients use dhcp and some are statically mapped and both has fallen victim to this.i never used either lmhosts or host files and I double checked my only dhcp server for that ironious ip address but no luck in finding it. I even looked at my wins and dns server for records and they show the inside address.

Thanks again for a speedy reply
