My notebook is a Gericom M6-T running Win2k.
Every 15 minute or so (randomly) I loose my connection to the network. None of the other computers have problems.
When I ping I get the response: Request timed out.
The only way to have back my connection is to unplug and plug again my network cable. It works allways.
How can I find what is wrong?
 
Process of elimination. It could be any number of things from a bad switch or switch port to a bad nic.
 
Go to Security Options in Local Security Policy (under Control Panel / Administrative Tools)and change the value for "Amount of idle time required before disconnecting session" to 0.

Yes.The combo NIC/modem is incorporated in the notebook. It is an Accton EN2242 Series MiniPCI Fast Ethernet Adapter.
I have the latest Gericom driver: 1.8.201.2001 from 1.2.2001.

My domain policy override my local policy for "Amount of idle time required before disconnecting session" and the effective setting stay 15 min.
 
As somebody said before, it could be a lot of reasons. But to start with, have you tried using another NIC and do you see the same problem? If not it is your card giving trouble. Borrow somebody else's card and see if it works.

How about the modem on the card, do you need to unplug and plug back in, in order for the modem to work?

I think it can be something with the notebook connector. When I move the cable it seems to work again. I tried a lot of different cables, but it is still the same. The connector is pretty fixed, so I suspect it can be the contacts in the connector.
I will try with a contact spray, maybe it is just a little rusty.
 
If the connection comes up by moving the cable, it is definitely your card (as you already tried changing cable).

To confirm it, just borrow somebody else's card and see and also another thing is, just see if the RJ-45 connector of your cable sits properly inside the card.

Yes, it is an internal NIC.
I think definitely to go to the the vendor repair service.
Now I am sure it is a hardware problem. Not even electronic, but only the mechanic.
