Ping by name

I need to ping by name a nt server. I cannot ping it by name. If it has underscores in the name will that do it?

If you have a working DNS running you should be able to ping a machine by their name. If you named your machine with a _ in the name you will need to use that to ping your machine.

If you type the command nbtstat -a ipnumber you should get the name of the machine as its known by your DNS, then try and ping that.

underscores are not supported in Microsoft DNS.

This is probably why you are having trouble pinging this computer.
