ping and ftp problems

Hello all,

If I ping a website like

http://www.msn.com

or

http://www.slb.com

it says request timed out. Also i cant ftp to ftp://microsoft.com
Does anyone know what the problem is?
im running a stand alone windows 2000 machine.

The 2 sites mentioned are configured to not respond to ping requests, and you tried to ftp to the wrong address.

some sites do not allow ping attempts since it may come across as a hack attempt. In the router config there are settings in the ACL that allow you to deny ICMP.

and I believe that the ftp issue has been addressed.
