What do you mean, 'rougher looking'?
Do you mean that the lines don't appear as smooth?
If so, the reason is that your monitor cannot display diagonal lines as well as it can horizontal and vertical ones. Even though you can see the steps in the lines on your monitor, they will print out smoothly.
