Hello Everyone,

I was building a computer for one of my friends and I ran into a problem with the video card. The motherboard is a Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra Platinum edition. The video card I tried installing is an ATI Radeon 9600 (128MB, 4x/8x AGP).

On the first boot I get one beep and then a minute later another followed by a long one, according to the manual this means that there is some issue with the video card or AGP slot. I put in my older Radeon 7200 card (64MB, 4x AGP) and it works fine. I thought it was a bad Motherboard so we sent that one back to newegg.com and got a replacement (the same model). I tried installing the video card again, same issue. I put the older 7200 in and it works fine.

Here is the twist: The Radeon 9600 works on my system that has the SAME KT400 chipset from SOYO. The only difference is mine is the black version. Logically thinking, the 9600 should have worked in my friend's system. The motherboards are mechanically identical, (if not please correct me) the BIOS/CMOS settings are also identical. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem? (I am very close to getting my friend an ASUS Motherboard.)

Why put the blame on the motherboard, it's just as likely the "picky" ATI Radeon graphics card.
In my experience Via KT400 chipset motherboards are amongst the most stable and easy to setup.

Go into "safe" mode. Delete ALL the video drivers. Reboot and let the system "see" which board you are using. The IRQ's from the different video boards may be conflicting in set-up.

I did go into safe mode and deleted all the video drivers, still got nothing but beeps. As far as the KT400 chipset, I know it is one of the best out there.

And another twist: the phone number for Soyo tech support in America has been disconnected.

Thanks for the help.
