PHP Log-In Script 1

I am new to PHP, using ASP at teh moment, however I realise the power of PHP and would like to migrate my entire site to PHP, however, I want to create a central log-in database, like a MEMBERS SECTION.

I also need this database to be accessible by various other features throughout the site, such as the CHATROOM, the FORUMS and FREE DOWNLOAD SECTION for instance.

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction. Thanks.
