PHP and XML

I want to use XML with php, I have been using asp and xml together and have got me head around all the notation and quirks.

I've been looking at php.net for xml documentation, and I have to say that I find it even more confusing than the asp version.

Are there any good resources that anyone has found with some sample scripts for database interaction, specifially being to pick up child nodes and looping through child nodes and creating data islands within a page.
