PHP & certificates & SSL

Hi All,

Just a quick query about using a security certificate on my site...if I arrange for the cert and install it on the host server...it is not the same site as

http://www.mysite.com,

right?

you need to access it via

https://www.mysite.com...

are they the same sites? will sessions persist across this change?

What is the best way to ensure a complete session so as not to loose data from the client machine regarding the transaction?

I don't want to use the SSL until the check out page, where the user fills out all the sentive data...

does a session/session cookie persist across this change?

Cookies are domain-specific, so if your secure site and non-secure site are both

http://www.mydomain.com,
