It's a case of colour profiling, matching "what you see" with "what you actually get"
Often printers will come with some sort of print colour setup and or photo manipulation software, some graphics cards also have this type of adjustment in the control panel. Essentially you are making adjustments to first give you the correct colours on the monitor, then to match the colours produced by the printer to the monitor.
