Hi all,

Having a problem with photoshop 7 running slow when opening large files.

The spec of the PC i'm using is a 2.66Ghz, 512MB RAM with 1 40GB HDD and a 10GB HDD

I'm running the Scratch disk for photoshop on the second 10HDD.

Anyone have any ideas..

;O)

cheers

Well you certainly have pleanty of "Horsepower" but can you tell me what "large files" means...2, 5, 20 30 meg and what file types seem to be causing the slowdown... .bmp, .psd etc?

How is your system performing with other products?

Have you cleaned up your system lately, like remove temp files defrag etc?

Thnaks for your reply...

The files range from 500K to 4 meg... and there PSD and BMP

The system as you can tell by the hoursepower runs fine with all other application but it just seems to slowdown with photoshop..

The system is a fresh XP pro build so there isn't many temp file etc to clear..

;O)

cheers

Hmmm.... with that said the question may be how is your memory being used?

Can you do the following and let me know the results?

With PShop running

Click Start / Run / msinfo32 / OK

In the System Summary folder you will see the amount of total physical memory plus the amount of available physical memory. What are these amounts?

If there is not enough memory to run PShop efficiently try the following:

Click the + sign next to Software Environment
Click the folder next to Running Tasks

You will see all the programs currently running (using memory)

Do you see any that don't need to be running like "weather monitor" etc?

Click the title of the column that shows the Size (amount of memory each task uses)

Start from the largest size and eliminate this task if not needed.

The Physical Momory is 512.50
and the available physical memory is 165.93

I checked the running tasks and to be honest there wasn't much running that's taking alot of memory..

This seems a strange problem because i've run performance monitor for a couple of days and all the paging files and memory isn't running out...

I was wondering is there are any configuration within photoshop i can do to help it run more smoother..

Thanks for you help so far..

;O)

cheers
