Phone RIngs a Short Ring 2

I have a phone in which the person has complained that periodically during the day, her phone will ring 1 short/quick ring. She says usually she's doing something else and hears it ring, but only catches a blur on her display, which is an 8434D.

She was a station, we made her an agent and initiated a trace via CMS, but nothing jives. The times she says she's received the short ring and CMS do not match up.

Anyone have any ideas?

I originally thought that someone was misdialing and hanging up, but CMS would have caught that in its trace report.

we had a site that did that when a station had 'send all calls' activated... for them it was #4 to deactivate.... usually a along with the 'short ring' they reported voicemails being received when the phone never rang...

We've checked for SAC, Call Fwd, and even those settings on appearances of other extension that appear on her phone, but they do not appear to be the problem. Because even with anyone of those set/enabled, her display would still be lit longer.

What does STAT STAT show?

Currently she is setup as an agent, which was for the purpose of us trying to trace the incoming calls via CMS.

If it's not SAC, the only other possibility that makes sense to me is that someone is dialing and hanging up quickly. You said that you've made her DID an Agent ID for tracking via CMS, but you also mention that this individual has bridged appearence of other extensions on her phone (... "even those settings on appearances of other extension that appear on her phone"). Perhaps the short calls are coming from a bridged appearence; I don't think that a CMS trace would capture bridged appearence traffic. Can you remove the bridged appearences and see if the problem continues?

Susan,

I have a customer that has this same problem and it turned out to be exactly what you said - a bridged appearance that had SAC activated or Call Forward All calls activated. However, we can not get this behavior to stop. We tried setting redirect notification to N on the station that is bridged as well as on the station that has the bridged appearance, but we still get the Ring-Ping. I also tried to set the bridged appearance to Delayed ringing (to stop the Ring-Ping), but delayed ringing does not seem to work. The Abbreviated/Delayed Transition Interval is set to 3 rings. Is there any way to eliminate or control the Ring-Ping from ringing bridged appearances when they activate SAC or Call Forward?

Actually, SF0751 and ttcsbarry,

I did check the bridged appearances for SAC and/or Call Fwd, because I too thought that was the problem. None of the appearances were set for CF and 1 was set for SAC. But even when dialing the extension that was SAC, it will still ring 1 full ring and then she was able to see the info on the display.

The problem we are experiencing are a short ring with no display information.

Thanks SF0751 (Susan) and ttcsbarry

Does the 8434 require a power supply and if so is it powered at the station as opposed to from the frame? Somewhere in the fogginess of my memory I'm pulling up a similar problem that ended up being related to a faulty 48v power supply.

The 8434D does have a power supply, which is under the desk and not on the frame.

I will replace it and post back in a few days.

I've replaced the power supply, but we are still experiencing the short calls.

Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

May want to look very close at the coverage path for this station. Just a shot in the dark!

try enabling call logging so you can go back and see who is calling the station.

The coverage path for this extension is the same as it is for approx. 500 others.

I was not able to try the call logging because of time constraints. So we've called Avaya, who came out and replaced the phone.

I'll post back when "we" finish out troubleshooting.

Thanks all for your help.

If it does not come out as a hardware problem(hope it does) then you can try doing a li usa on the station and see if this guy features in any of the coverage paths / forwarding destinations etc..
You can also do a check if there are any unread Voice messsages in the mail box. I know its a digital phone but...

Thanks dimpoo,

I did do a lis usage and it came back empty.

Also what is it about the unread voice messages in the mail box?

Thanks,

If there is a unread message in the Voicemail box, it sends a voltage flicker once in a while. It comes as a short ring on Analog phones.

Thanks All,

Avaya came out last week and replaced the phone and we have not had any short calls since.

Again thanks everyone for your help, suggestions and insight.

Glad that everything is working now for you; thanks for keeping us posted!
