You can change the ring tone for a specific line though. so, if you have a private line assigned to your phone, you can have that line ring differently using Unique Line Ringing (#209).

You need to assign it from ext. 10 or 11. You will need to find out what line number it is in the system before beginning (line 1, line 2, etc). You can do that by pressing Feature 00 on your phone, then pressing the button that the line appears on. It should then say "Immediate ring L04" (or L05 or whatever depending upon the line number) in the display. Once you have this information, you have to program the actual feature from extension 10 or 11. From ext. 10/11, you would press the Feature key, then 00 on the keypad. The Left Intercom Button Twice, then #209. The display will then prompt you for the line number. Line 1 is 01, line 2 is 02, etc. You can then Press 1-8 to hear the different ring patterns available for that line. when you hear one you like, just press Feature 00 again and that will take you back out of programming mode.

it is good to know about I tried it on a acs I was working on this afternoon worked fine

came back to the office and tried it on a partner 11 rel 4.0 ...no go

I checked and it actually needs to be an ACS R3.0 or higher for 209 to work.

Hi. I was reading through the threads and this one intersted me...I've always disliked the ring on the partner phones. So, I tried this (#209). I follow the steps and get to the point where I put in #-2-0-9 but all I can put is #20 and when I hit the '9' it just makes an "error" beep. I am quite sure our system is R3.0 or later. Any ideas???

Go to a display phone and enter Feature 59. It will tell you for sure what software rev. the switch is at.

When I do a feature 59 the diplay reads P ACS R1.1 CO1

Guess since it isn't R3.0 or later it won't work? That what I understand from an earlier post?

You have an ACS ver 1.1. I may be mistaken, but I heard that many dealers got a free upgrade card to Ver 2.0 for those.
Anyway, to early a release for ring types, sorry.

The only silly questions are the ones you don't ask. Everyone here seems to be very helpful.
There are circuit and power supply changes too. You could just "flash" it, but I think you'd be further ahead to get ahold of an R5 or later. The R7 is due out soon, so R6's should drop in price as Avaya clears out inventory. The later processors are more reliable.
There is a new carrier out (5 slot). It has more space between cards for better cooling. It's worthwhile.

Ok, what is involved in "flashing" it? Cost is a major factor and I doubt they'll want to pay much at all even though they'd like to have the new features. Would "flashing" it give the features of whatever revision version I "flashed" it to?

Hi Mark,
Yes, flashing the software will give you the new features. I don't think fax CNG detection circuitry exists in the R1.1. Someone can correct me if this is not true.
To "flash" the software. Get a backup / restore / remote access card. Wait until after hours. Turn the system off, remove the old card and install the new card. Turn the system on. The power light will alternate red green for a while, then the system will reboot. Done. Leave the new card in the unit. Note, these are one time upgrade only, don't buy a used one.
You may get some odd program corruption, just fix it best that you can. Now you should be able to dial into the system with Remote Administration & save your program on a computer. The software is available for free download at support.avaya.com .

Flashing would be my best option because it is the cheaper way to go. Cost is a major factor and much $$ and they won't go for it. But they want an upgrade, if possible.

I kind of lost you in your last paragraph there. After I insert the backup/restore/remote access card, etc., I then get the software on a computer and 'dial-in' to the system. Can you tell me what's involved in 'dialing-in' and then what I do after I'm in to save the program and complete the "flashing" so I have new features? On Avaya's site it says the software is for R3.0, R4.0, R5.0 and R6.0. Is this going to work on my system? Does the 'upgrade' occur after I dial in with the software or what?

The new card has a modem in it. It's at ext 76. Use the latest revision of Remote Administration software (R6 in this case)to connect to the system.
The software is upgraded via the card only. That is what is happening while the power light on the ACS is alternating red / green. You do not need to do anything else. The Admin. software just makes programming easier and more understandable (I find anyway). To use Remote Admin., you need to put a password in. Do that in: system programming, #730, enter.
Connect to a system port with intercom dialtone. You can use the AUX port on a Partner series phone. Push an intercom button, push the okay button and push the speaker button on the phone again when you here the modem start. Enter your password when prompted.
