Hi

I have a IP Office 412 which is running 2.1 (as we are still on DT). I have a situation where I am redeploying 30 of my workstations and I am using Active Directory to deploy software, as the 2.1 phone manager install is a legacy instal I cannot deploy this very easy but version 4 phone manager is MSI based which is what I need.

Does anyone know of any issues with me running version 4 phone manager with my 2.1 system. I have Pro licences so I won't be using the lite version. I have tried it on one machine so far and all seems ok!

It really isn't recommended to mismatch firmware and user software.

However, if it working continue to test and see what happens. If yo have any issue neither Avaya or your reseller will want to get involved...

Take Care

Matt
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

I spoke to my reseller and they said well we don't know... try it!

The problem is your using a DT based shell but trying to use a DS built phone manager.

I wouldnt advice it and probably wouldnt do it my self.

I need to check if 3.0 (578) User apps is MSI based.
You may want to talk to your re-seller and get up to this level. I will check about this version being msi based.

Cheers

I have checked and 3.2 is the first version where the User Apps are MSI based installs. The problem I have is the directors won't allow me to upgrade to 4 due to the extensive costs where replacing 90 handsets and modules and a 403DT at a remote office with 15 handsets and we are only 3 years into our 5 year lease!

What OS are they running on the pc's?

Mainly XP but I do have 4 Vista machines now in the office!

They may be fine on XP but there will be some windows you cannot use, like the personal greetings tab etc.

Suck it and see.

beefy80,
You will probaly spend more time trying to mess with this than it takes to install the 2.1 app.

Try this, email instructions to the users, if they have the rights needed to install apps. The ones that have issue, go help them, that should be about 10% if they are average users. 2 minutes per app install is about all it takes if the systems are up and running. That is probably less time than you will spend automating the proccess.

Thank you, for your reply the issue I have is that none of our users have admin rights to their machines so I have to install phone manager manually on each system, we also now have a strict software update policy where all software has to be deployable via the network (hence the rebuild to machines) so that we can update it centrally currently we us AD to do this but may move to SMS at some stage. I have already got phone manager 4 deploying (This is very simple as it's MSI based) to test machines and this seems to be working well I just had some concerns that IPO 2.1 with PMP 4.0 may cause issues!

At the moment I'm on the Suck it and see approach!
