I know with all versions of IP Office you received Phone manager Lite. What is the future of Phone Manager Lite? I am asking this question based on the future of phone manager being more likely to be the one x client. All the tech transfer and online training I have completed do not mention anything free like phone manager lite. Can someone please confirm if you receive phone manager lite or equivilant on release 6.

Thanks,
Colin

Phone Manager still works on R6 and lite is still free.

Take what you will about the fact they haven't updated it since 4.2.

Football is not a matter of life and death-It is far more important!!!!

On one of the R6 seminars the question was asked about phonemanager and indeed no nore R&D is being spent on it. I think when V7 comes Phonemanager Lite/Pro will go especially with the migration from PMPro to office worker (One X Portal) that is now available.

We have a Release 5 but I have not had a play with the one x client etc. I do not see how a customer can justify installing a new server to run the one x suite. We have alot of clients who would not allow you to install additional applications onto their servers. They would expect to do this without needing seperate server. Can you acheive any screen popping in outlook and all the other applications as you can with phone manager pro etc with the one x suite?

Thanks,

Colin

PhoneManager is at its end of it's life, and i am happy to see that happen.
Most customers hate it to install a application on al workstations if it cannot be deployed like windows update.
The One-X portal is a good alternative in spite of the fact that yet another server has to be deployed.
I would not be surprised to see that IP Office will migrate to a server based solution running on a virtualized server ( S8800? ) in the near future.
There is little profit in hardware and a lot more in software and services, installers should recognize that and take proper actions to be prepared for the future.
Take a close look at what companies like Microsoft, Red Hat etcetera are doing and you will see the future of the Telecom industry.
If you look at the CM part of Avaya you can see that this is already common ground there. If you sell a CM you cannot sell it without a software/hardware maintenance contract.

Yes I agree with you intrigrant. soon a Phone system will be just another server running an operating system with software application bolted on top. Correction a phone system has always been that way but as with all software applications try to stretch what one box can do and suddenly you don't have a reliable phone system anymore but just another PC. I agree the future of VOIP telephony is a server, the manufacture might want that but do all the customers. How long have we been selling two boxes that one box can do. But how often does it pay to have a seperate phone system to a server because of the ability to use the phones when the PC crashes and the pc when the phone crashes. I have seen the CM and have sold other enterprise products but one thing I can say about a telephone without the applications is you pick it up you make a call and you put it down it works. The future will involve more application more complication and more money. All good for Avaya not so good for me.

Thanks

Did we all wanted the Microsoft Operating System?
Did we ask for the OTTO gas engine?

Sometimes ( often ) you don't get what you want, you get what has the best marketeer behind it.

In this case there are two very good marketeers in the market : Microsoft and Cisco.
They make up the future of telecomms and NOT the enduser, the enduser will buy what these companies tell them to buy and know what : these customers are happy with it so they don't have to make a decision.

So does that mean Avaya will be playing by Cisco rules in the future? I agree about everything moving toward being software based. Even someone at Avaya told me as much a couple years ago.

Avaya is managed by old Cisco management so i guess that is a yes :)

i like the idea of phone manager going. its a great app, but installs and upgrades are tedious. if onex portal can be developed to provide the same functionality then great.

Get well soon Aaron.

It can Tom,
Only thing that is not in is Queue in PMPro but Avaya says that an agent should use CCR.
