Hello

My phaser 840 is playing up...

2 things... it seems to be printing blue wrong (comes out more green) and a solid area of blue comes out grainy with lots of white patches in.

The printer test page - Light Stripes Test... bars are randomly missing... from all colours including black. there appears to be a vertical strip about 4 bars wide where all 4 colours are messed up - black patches in the yellow... etc

Any idea what is wrong?
My printer sometimes makes a loud clonking sound when it feeds paper in which causes it to print badly. If I leave it for a few mins it is fine again.

Thanks
Mat

Sounds like your print heads is clogging up. Do you power on and off all the time?

I just fixed this typd of problem on a Xerox 8400 by changing out the print head. Seems that it clogged and wouldn't purge.

The clonking sound could be part of the print head / motor mechanism.

I would start there.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

I don't turn it on/off ... but I think a problem with non-xerox cyan may have caused something recently.

The wax got stuck in the ink holding channel, and I believe (but cannot confirm it) that it was run dry... the channel had about 3 blocks in but the lower block got stuck... would this cause a similar problem to occur/begin?

Print heads sound expensive...?

Thanks

Mat

I would get geniune ink sticks and take out the non-xerox brand and run the cleaning process. (turn on/off to kick off the purge) I have heard that the ink sticks by other third party companies are not quite the same as Xerox. I think they do something chemically to them for better performance. that is why I dont use generics.

To remove ink sticks from the channels, I use a pen to slide the stick up to the opening, then stab it with the pen. Don't stab to much or it will crack in half, but stab it enough so it causes friction. You will then be able to remove the sticks like it was the game "Operation".

And you are right, the List price of the print head is about $1,000 But if you check with an authorized service center, you might get it cheaper, but they will also charge for labor.
