Hi Friends,

Can anybody help me out from my problem.
Our company wants to change all the tapes, they have got 25 tapes and now i have take away the old tapes and configure new tapes.
I am not an expert in veritas netbackup 4.5
Can you guide me what to do and how to do.
I supporting it remotely so through commandline only i can do.
Is that we remove all the tapes and and new one in the tray?
System automatically detects them or we have to do any thing before them.
Do we have to preserve any data related to that.
Please help me out as it is urgent and give me detailed steps to do.
Thanks in advance....

I think My good friend PGPhantom can help me out..

You need to give me a bit more information.
[ol][Li]What O/S does the master reside on?[/Li]
[Li]What tape device are you using?[/Li]
[Li]Does it support bar codes?[/Li]
[Li]Are you just replacing tapes or changing format?[/Li]
[Li]Do you need to keep data from the old tapes?[/Li]
[/ol]

Once I have that info, I can help you further.

Thanks for the Reply
here are the answers.

1. Solaris 2.8
2. L25 , TLD robotic
3. Yes it do support barcodes.
4. Just replacing few tapes
5. Yes

Iam supporting Netbackups and solaris admin activities remotly.

Iam very new to Backups basically iam Sys Amin on Solaris.
As some tapes are full, sys admin before me had an order of the tapes so they got them now and aked to replace the full and frozen one.

So i asked the person on site to change the tapes and he did it with my steps from here.

Now we got a problem, errorcode 96
and 61 robot number and robot host mismatch

We are using Veritas Netbackup 4.5 version.

Currently defined robotics are:
TLD(0) robotic path = /dev/sg/c2t0l0,
volume database host = redft3

With two drives.

If you need any other information i can provide it..please help me..

Note:
Intially the media server and netbackup server were on server:blue1
they swaped the Ip address and changed the hostname to server:redft3
now media server and netbackup server on redft3...so in our vm.conf file i see both the servers name even though i deleted the entries of blue1 it comming again when i restart the daemons...i think from some where its comming and overlapping...pl help

when i run get_license_script in goodies i find the license is still installed on blue1..

THOUGH THE CONFIGURATION IS LIKE , THE BACKUPS WHERE RUNNING FINE STILL WE CHANGED THE TAPES(5 IN NUMBER) WHICH ARE FULL WHY IS THIS HAPPENING..

pL. HELP ME AS IT IS URGENT ...EVEN YOU CAN GIVE ME YOUR id SO THAT WE CAN CHAT..PLEASE

If the server name was changed - The device should of been removed thrugh the NetBackup GUI and added back as the links will always exists in the db files. I would suggest removing the storage unit group, storage unit, drives, robot, in that order, reboot the master server (Or use bpkill_all) and then restart. Add everything back in under the new name.

For media - You should just have to add new tapes with unique bar codes and they will work fine. If the existing tapes are full and the images have not expired - They will not be used until that expiration is over. What are you retention levels set for.
