Persistent read reciepts

I sent an email to an external user 3 days ago. and I've been recieving numerous read reciepts to the email I sent.

the read receipts says'' the message has been read at 10:09am''
then the same message comes up again after half an hour or so.

Is there a way I could stop this from happening.
